A small Cape Town coffee venture that began with a mission to create opportunities for Deaf South Africans is now celebrating a milestone few businesses reach.
I Love Coffee, the social enterprise known for employing Deaf baristas and promoting inclusive workplaces, has marked its 10th anniversary after generating more than 500 000 working hours for Deaf employees and trainees since opening in 2016.
For many South Africans, grabbing a morning coffee is routine. But at I Love Coffee, every cup represents something bigger access to jobs, skills development and greater independence for members of a community that continues to face significant barriers to employment.
